The best kept secret in Louisville, Bunbury Theatre has emerged as one of the Main Staples in the theatrical landscape. In its 21st season, Bunbury is recognized as one of the hottest alternative Theatres in the region. It has been described as what an off-Broadway theatre should be.

Under the Direction and Leadership of Juergen K. Tossmann (Bunbury’s Producing/ Artistic Director) Bunbury Theatre maintains a solid reputation for the presentation of some of the finest theatre going.Founded in 1985 Bunbury Theatre began in a Tobacco Warehouse on the east side of the city. In 1990 the theatre renovated the back portion of one of Louisville’s oldest historical buildings, "The Louisvillian". For 13 years Bunbury performed in a beautiful 99 seat theatre. In January of 2004 Bunbury closed its doors due to the loss of its lease and the building of the 21c hotel. on it site. Since that time Bunbury has been performing at The Bomhard Theatre at the Kentucky Center. Bunbury's new theatre at The Henry Clay on Third and Chestnut will open mid July of 2007


The Mission of Bunbury Theatre is to create enriching and diverse theatrical experiences for the community and its artists in an intimate and professional environment - in the spirit of Off-Broadway.


PRODUCING DIRECTOR

Juergen K. Tossmann

Juergen K. Tossmann is Bunbury Theatre's Producing/Artistic Director. Mr. Tossmann is a graduate of Otterbein College and began his professional theatre career in 1978. Juergen will be celebrating his 17th season with Bunbury in April of 2007, having produced over 75 productions for the theatre. An accomplished director, actor and playwright, Juergen continues to hone his skills and develope new and innovative programs for Bunbury. He has written several Children's Plays and adaptations as well as six plays at Bunbury. SALVAGE YARD, SALVAGE YARD REVISITED, GARAGE SALE, UNCLE SMILEY'S COMIN' HOME, LIVING WITH KLAUS and ASSISTED LIVING. In the fall of 2004 his screenplay for UNCLE SMILEY'S COMIN' HOME was turned into a full length feature film. It is currently making its way through the film festival cirucuit. As Bunbury's Producing Director, he has reversed the downward slide the theatre had taken in the late 1980's and has guided Bunbury through the current transition to its new home.

His leadership has created financial stability as well as artistic integrity within the organization. He has worked in several theatres in the Kentuckiana area including Actors Theatre of Louisville (where he started his career as an apprentice in 1977), Stage-One, and Derby Dinner Playhouse. He spent nine seasons with The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in a variety of positions. He was cofounder of the improvisational theatre company KUDZU and spent five years working with a variety of arts organizations and elementary schools as a drama consultant.

He has staged several corporate events including The Annual Meeting for the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, The 100th Anniversary of Meilink Safe Company and Rootstock (The Dave Higgins Tribute) and Eddie's Public Access Show and Treasure Hunt for Brown-Forman Corporation. He was also host and co-producer with Joel Timothy of the popular LIVE AT BUNBURY THEATRE which was presented on WFPK. Juergen is a graduate of THE LEADERSHIP NETWORK which focuses on skills for community leaders.
