OF BUNBURY” PASSES

Jesus in a Bunbury Theatre production of THE COTTON
PATCH GOSPEL |
Robin Hunter 44, highly regarded for his roles
at Bunbury Theatre, passed away Friday September 23rd at Jewish
Hospital. A theatre graduate of Indiana University, Robin’s
involvement at Bunbury Theatre began in 1991.
During his 14 years at the
theatre Robin was seen in countless roles and worked behind
the scenes as well. He directed several productions and also
served one term as Board President. Juergen K. Tossmann,
Bunbury Theatre’s Producing/Artistic Director called
Robin, “The soul of Bunbury.” “Robin was
indeed the glue that held it all together. I could always count
on my brother to do whatever it took to keep the theatre alive
and vibrant. No words can express how badly he will be missed.
His performances were breathtaking and he sang like an angel.”
Over the years Robin performed in 23 plays and
musicals. With each play Robin grew as an actor and as a human
being. Social issues and race relations often challenged his
characters. In 1997 Robin was cast in the role of Jesus in the
musical GODSPELL. Tossmann recalls, “It was his first musical
at Bunbury and Robin shined in the role. It was a challenge of
a lifetime and Robin rose to the occasion. His suffering on the
cross was perhaps the most moving moment of any play ever performed
at the theatre. The standing ovation closing night lasted for
three and a half minutes and Robin was greeted with uproarious
applause.”
Robin would go on to play Jesus again in a 1999
production of GODSPELL and also in a production of THE COTTON
PATCH GOSPEL in 2003. Tossmann says, “No one will ever
fill the void that has been created by Robin’s passing.
He was a faithful servant to our organization and he can’t
be replaced. He gave of himself selflessly.
