Juergen K. Tossmann

Producing Artistic Director

Juergen (pronounced Yurgen) has been Bunbury's Producing Artistic Director since 1991. Thirty years ago, he guided a struggling fledgling company to health and artistic prominence.

Juergen has dedicated his professional life to Bunbury Theatre Company, a graduate of Otterbein University (class of '77) and an alumnus of the Apprentice program of Actors Theatre of Louisville, Juergen is in his final act with Bunbury and looking forward to the future growth of the company.

Under Juergen's leadership, Bunbury developed two venues; in 1991, a 99 seat Off-Broadway-style theatre converted from an aging mechanical garage, and in 2007 the company turned an old gymnasium in The Henry Clay building into a 140 seat state of the art theatre. The theatre currently serves three companies; Bunbury, Pandora Productions, and The Liminal Playhouse.

Before Bunbury, Juergen worked as an artist-in-residence, teacher, actor, freelance director, assistant director, production stage manager, stage manager, prop master, acting coach, and co-founded an improvisational theatre company. The myriad positions at theatre's all over the country prepared him for a job that would last over 30 years. At Bunbury Juergen has produced over 200 shows.

In 2020 he received the Kathi EB Ellis Lifetime Achievement Award from Louisville Visual Art. Juergen is excited about guiding the organization beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic and mentoring a new group of artistic leaders at the pinnacle of his career.

Since 1986, Bunbury Theatre Company has been producing live theatre in Louisville, KY. Our volunteers are the key to our longevity. Without our volunteer base and support, we would not be part of this community. From the Board of Directors to the ushers to the production volunteers, all are vital members of our company.

Our mission is to highlight and develop thought-provoking, engaging and entertaining live productions, bringing to focus issues of identity and social interest.

Over the years, Bunbury has seen tremendous growth, and we weathered the Great Recession of 2008. We just keep learning and growing and creating some of the best theatre in the region with your support.

Since March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, we have been retooling our operations and are in the process of working through this very difficult transition.

If you own a small business, make decisions for a large corporation, or are part of a foundation, we invite you to contribute to Bunbury's ongoing efforts; there are myriad ways to do so.

We are a member of The Fund For The Arts and giving to the Fund is a great way to support Bunbury!
